Refuse to celebrate any dream life that was built on the pain of others
Y’all, I swear, I have become such a rebel. I am questioning everything these days. I am especially questioning why we continue to celebrate the millionaire-at-25, I-built-this-business-using-just-my-phone lifestyle that is essentially just another get rich quick, pyramid scheme that requires someone (usually MANY someone’s) be at the bottom.
Let’s take a look at the people living these dream lives we uphold, such as the typical influencer and how they make their money. A lifestyle influencer is essentially selling their life by making an approximate 10% commission from the items that they influence others to purchase. And influencers have learned that cheaper items are more likely to influence a sale. So instead of just sharing one item that they thoughtfully purchased to serve a purpose and last a long-time, not a “life-changing” or “must-have” item, they share many, many items that cost very little; items that they themselves are often not purchasing at all. They know it’s a numbers game if they want to make a lot of money.
There are two different types of people who are losing so that this influencer can win. We have (1) you, the consumer, who is constantly bombarded with the idea that you aren’t enough until you have those things, and (2) the individuals involved in the supply chain who are either in terrible working conditions (bUt It’S a GoOd LiViNg FoR tHaT cOuNtRy!) or experiencing the environmental effects that come from lack of regulation of air, water, and soil pollution from manufacturing (mAyBe ThEy ShOuLd MoVe SoMeWhErE eLsE!).
That is A LOT of people who are experiencing mild to extreme levels of discomfort over a short to lifelong period so that just a few people can live their “dream life”. And I refuse to be a part of it.
If you feel the same, friend, you are in the right place.
