Do the thing, imperfectly

I will never shame you if getting take out coffee is the only light in your life and you don’t want to give it up to save a few bucks everything month.

I, personally, don’t have any really good coffee places along my normal driving routes (and I am not about to drive 10 miles out of my way for a good coffee). So I’m on a mission to figure out how to make the best quick and inexpensive cold coffee at home. And so far, I’ve made a lot of not so good, imperfect cups of coffee.

Trial and error is not my strong suit. I want to know the best way to do something, with the best tools, and if I can’t do it “the right way”, I don’t want to do it all. And that perfectionism, in the past, has stopped me from doing good in the world. I’ve many times been so fixated on not messing up that I just take no action at all.

One of things I absolutely love doing with clients, the thing that I want the most for them not just when we work together actively, but forever and forever, is helping them push past doubt and uncertainty, to do the things with their money that they were afraid to do because they wanted to do it perfectly. They were so worried about being risk averse that they did nothing. But nothing is still an outcome, and you will have get nothing if you do nothing.

So, in service to you, my people who I want to feel empowered and courageous, I going to continue to keep making imperfect coffee until we get to the really good cup, the one that tastes like all our money is aligned just as we like it with our values.
