The importance of a vision

In the debt-free community (DFC, for short) the energy and excitement for personal finance is palpable. There is a momentum that is catching, inspiring others to do whatever it takes to pay down debt and see that zero balance. We go to sleep at night dreaming of our “debt free scream”, knowing if we stay gazelle-intense and stick to a beans & rice diet, we will be there before we know it.

I sit here now on the other side of debt repayment, still so glad to owe a single cent to anyone. But also recognizing that there is so much more to life than paying off debt. That if we don’t have a clear vision of what we want our life to look like, the first thing we will do after paying that final payment on that last debt is ask “now what?”

Before we get wrapped up in going all in on debt repayment, we need to ask ourselves,

“If I did not have to work to support myself or my loved ones, what would I want my life to look like?”

“What would my days be spent doing?”

“What would I be excited to wake up for every morning?”

“How would I continue growing and being helpful to my community?”

Having a clear vision for your life, for what is possible, for what you would your days to feel and look and sound like, is essential to the start of a personal finance journey that is aligned with your values. Let’s dream big together.
